An overwhelming amount of information has appeared in recent decades about neurotransmitters, receptors, and different parts of the brain that are more or less active associated with different types of thoughts. Additionally, a broad literature now exists on the relation of the immune system to mood and behavior. The integration of neuroscience and immunology has illuminated how pharmaceuticals, food, and lifestyle changes affect function, giving us new ways to improve well-being.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVESJill Littrell is an Associate Professor at Georgia State University. After 8 years as a social worker, Jill Littrell earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Following a VA internship in alcohol and drug abuse, she worked as a psychologist in the Alcohol and Drug Dependency Department at Cigna. She published a two-volume work on alcoholism. In addition to serving as faculty at Georgia State, she has pursued a masters degree in molecular genetics and biochemistry.
